The Enclosure Has Arrived

OK, this is the first of my posts about my attempt to build a monome kit. As the kits won't ship until the end of July I've decided to make a start on the enclosure.

I've ordered one of the new kits from monome.org (great community and if you enjoy making music, you should check it out!). Also have decided to try and build the enclosure out of a broken Super Nintendo! It arrived this morning.

I had thought that I'd be able to take it apart today and install a faceplate for the monome's buttons, but it seems that I need a specific tool to remove the "guts". Essentially I'll be left with the light grey part and the monome faceplate will replace the dark grey bit.

In the next update I hope to be able to show the completed enclosure... unless my uncoordinated hands break it!!

So the SNES opening tool arrived the other day. But unfortunately it was the cartridge opener I received. So am now waiting on the new one arriving that is the correct size.

I also received a faceplate from curious inventor so I will find out shortly if I can feasibly mount the monome inside the SNES. Otherwise I'll have to rethink the enclosure.

I'd like to mount the faceplate flush with the top of the snes but it means hacking at the case with something sharp. I'll give it a bash a report back.

If unsuccessful I'll probably end up making a wooden enclosure.
